Metamorphosis Sculptures

New Sculptures by Enrica Campi

A woman-rabbit, a woman-snail, a woman-fish—three figures suspended between human and animal nature—take center stage in Enrica Campi’s new series of ceramic sculptures.

With a background in set design from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Turin, Enrica Campi has always infused her work with the language of theater, fairy tales, and imagination. Her female figures—often enigmatic and imbued with a subtle irony inhabit a world where reality and fantasy coexist.

In these new works, metamorphosis becomes an exploration of identity and its fluid, ever-changing nature. It remains unclear whether these are women taking on animal forms or animals acquiring human traits. It is precisely this ambiguity that makes them so compelling: they are hybrid creatures in which distinct identities coexist without negating one another.

Transformation is not depicted as a sudden event, but rather as a fundamental condition of existence. Nothing remains permanently the same; forms, identities, and ways of being shift, influence one another, and discover new points of equilibrium.

Through Metamorphosis, Enrica Campi gives shape to this state of constant becoming, while preserving the theatrical and poetic quality that makes her work instantly recognizable.
