"I was born in Seoul, South Korea, where I now run my jewelry studio. The recipient of a graduate degree in Metalwork and Jewelry from Kookmin University, and I studied as an exchange student for a year at Nova Scotia College of Arts and Design in Halifax, Canada. I’ve been researching the combination of fiber and metal materials to create new jewelry forms. I’m drawn to silk for its countless color possibilities and its near-weightlessness—ideal for my jewelry, which emphasizes size and volume. My work begins with the coloring of nature on a silk. The process of dyeing is one of the most intense moments in my work. I’m nervous, and at the same time feel so exciting. After dyeing the silk, I make small units that resemble the roots, stems, shrubs, berries, and thorns of plants. The elements of plants are beautiful and mysterious, they serve as a consolation to me in an unstable reality, and it is what I seek to share through my jewelry.
Last year, I was invited to a jewelry artist workshop at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and to the JOYA Art Jewelry Fair in Barcelona. I also selected and participated in the Philadelphia Craft Show, as a Korean representative jewelry artist. Recently, I was participated in LOOT : MAD(Museum of Arts and Design) about Jewelry Event, in New York, also international jewelry exhibitions are planned in Europe and China."
Jounghye PARK is interested in roots, stems, shrubs, berries and seeds: a natural vocabulary she translates into ornaments recalling the ambiguity of how plants put down roots in one place and at the same time stretch out into space with their seeds. The lightness of silk evokes this fluctuation. ..
Nuovo inserimento nello Shop OnLine sezione "Gioiello Contemporaneo"
